win 10 will not recognize external HD/storage devices....

so trying my external drives on new win 10 machine. both devices worked fine on win 7, every other device I use via this
usb connection also work fine. so how can I get win 10 to work fine? I see one of the devices is listed in device manager but cannot get it to actually work. I see lots of people have this issue with win 10 and cannot get it to recognize external devices either. been half hour and still not recognizing the drives

image shows seagate bup etc which I think is the external device

windows version number is windows 10

    :)

  2. VMware-usb storage device not recognized

    Hello,

I'm running Windows XP in Workstation Player on a Windows 10 laptop.

My USB CD/DVD drive is able to mount in the Player. So is a flash drive.

My Western Digital ssd (My Passport Ultra) is listed in "Removable devices", but fails to mount, giving this error:

win 10 will not recognize external HD/storage devices.... [IMG]

In the Virtual Machine settings, the USB controller is using usb 2.0.

The WD ssd is compatible with usb 3.0 and 2.0, and is supported by Windows XP. My desktop computer running Win XP has no problem mounting the drive.

The device manager in virtual Win XP shows it as an "unknown device."

I've read everything I can find on the problem, and tried a number of suggestions from the knowledge base at VMware as well as solutions via google searches.

Perhaps the WD ssd just won't work on the free version of VM Workstation Player (v. 14).

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Paul

Win 10 pro no longer recognizes external backup HD

Win 10 no longer recognizes the external 2TB Fantom Drive for backup.
    1. Uninstalled the drive using device manager. Cold booted.
    2. Plugged in the HD (external power and 3.0 USB connection)
    3. Does it's set up thing. Then there is a ! on the USB attached SCSI Mass storage device. It flashes briefly then the light goes out.
When doing a cold boot with the drive attached the light stays on thru the boot process, then goes out.
    4. Tried updating driver - says most recent drive is already installed.
Went to properties Code 38 error message previous instance of device driver still in memory.
    5. Location: Port_#17.Hub_0003
    6. Driver details C\windows\system32\drivers\uaspstor.sys. Driver version 10.0.10586.0 Can't be renamed or deleted.

29-Jun-16 15:59:45 device not started (UASPStor)

The drive used to work on my win 10 pro for backup. Got disconnected, and the error was to effect disconnected too long. Since then the laptop no longer recognizes the HD. I did a complete format of the HD. It still wasn't recognized by my laptop.
This HD works beautifully doing backup for my husband's win 10 home machine. No problem @ all!

    I'm really frustrated!!!!
Thank you in advance for assistance

Update, the external HD is now being recognized suddenly it is working. I did a system diagnostic report. Shows all kinds of errors, but the back up is working.
See error report. i don't understand what it is telling me to do. A specific explanation of how to fix this would be appreciated.

Update Assistant does not detect External Storage Device

I am currently facing an issue with the update assistant. The problem comes from the prompt as seen from this webpage

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-10-freeing-up-space-to-install-latest-update

The issue is in "Step 2: Connect an external storage device". It says to
"Connect your external storage device and wait until you see it in the drop-down list" but the external storage device already connected to my device (and shows up on My PC) is not shown on the drop down list. Can you help?
