Windows 10: .FBX no longer works after updating windows version

I was using version 170x for a long time and was able to open and view .FBX files within windows without the need for 3rd party software, allowing me to quickly check exported objects would retain materials properly however upon updating windows (reluctantly) to version 1903 I am now no longer able to open said .FBX files without using cinema 4D / Blender.


One simple question; why?


I was under the impression newer versions offered improvements though this seems like a step backwards. Any further information regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

My fbx files are Microsoft 3d paint files

Hi Joel,

You may follow the steps below and see if it works:

• In your search box, type Default apps settings.
• On the Default apps settings page, click on Choose default apps by file type.
• Under Choose default apps by file type screen, scroll down to .fbx and change Paint 3d to the Unity app installed on your computer.

Please check if it works.

Let us know what happens after doing the above steps.

 

Windows 98 and ME no longer updatable...

Quite right, XP is still listed in technet. Win 98 unfortunately isn't. Windows 3.1 and 3.2 are listed though.

 

FBX Export not available

Hello everyone,

I'm running 3D Paint 3.1708.14027.0.

It's my first time of using Paint 3D. I want to bring a fbx 3D-model into the hololens.

When I try to export there is only the .glb and .3mf option available.

I saw some 3D Paint tutorial on youtube - the fbx option was available.

Is my 3D Paint version too "new" and the fbx support is gone? Or is my computer not supported?
