Raw image viewing in Windows 10 issues

Can I also find a way to view RAF files in the preview pane? Canon CR2 files show up fine as both thumbnails and preview pane images but the RAW files from the Fujifilm HS30EXR do not. Is there a codec for those?

I don't know what you people are crying about. Ruth Buruga is obviously an incompetent moron for claiming that "There is no option to view as thumbnails in Windows 10." MS has a Camera Codec Pack available for Win7/8.x that enables RAW support. The contents
of that separate download are now part of Win10 itself. All you need to do is turn on thumbnail view via Explorer's Options dialog, the same way it's been done for decades now (learn something instead of posting inanities, Ruth) and voil , RAW thumbnails in
Explorer.









(I specifically downloaded CR2 samples for EOS 60D and SX60 from
here because those were the models the OP was talking about. The screenshot above was taken on a Win10 1607 (14393.576) PC with no third-party RAW codecs installed.)

Canon also has an old codec available from
here (select Windows 8 as the OS) but it's probably pointless trying to install it in Win10 (which has in-built CR2 support anyway).

You can similarly try viewing other RAW formats, but the point to note is that if the camera manufacturers update their formats or you have some obscure formats, then it's the manufacturers that you need to turn to for updated Win10 codecs and not cry about
how MS is not supporting every format under the sun (codecs are proprietary/patented and adding support to the OS doesn't come for free since there are likely substantial fees involved).

Ideally, the RAW images created by the cameras need their own software or extensions to work on Windows 10. The Raw Image Extension adds native viewing support for images captured in raw file formats produced by many mid- to high-end digital
cameras. By installing the package, you will be able to view thumbnails and metadata of supported raw file formats right in Windows File Explorer or view images in the Photos app. You may install the
Raw Image Extension from the Microsoft
Store and see if it helps.



If the issue persists, I suggest you to get in touch with the Nikon support and see if they can help you with the software or plugin to access RAW files.
