  1. Delay automatic update reboot based on load

I'm aware that you can delay updates via the 7 day option and you can have active hours, if your response includes either one of those I'm going to answer with "Thanks captain oblivious". Automatic updates and reboots are broken.

My machine runs VMs and those VMs run a lot of large simulations. This simulations can take up to 5 days to complete. When Windows update runs it kills those VMs and corrupts any data from those simulations. Suspend doesn't always work since the VMs have a large amount of memory dedicated to them (16Gb+ depending on what I'm doing) and unlike a regular shutdown Windows kills processes like Karen on Black Friday.

I would like to know if there's a way to

    a) delay automatic reboots from updates based on system load (ie if the system is under a 50% load don't reboot)

    b) set it up so the VMs get a chance to suspend instead of Windows just killing everything off (ie if a reboot is coming, notify and give the VMs at least 5 minutes to properly suspend)

    :)

    Vista Automatic Updating Error

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
