Windows 10: When manually moving desktop icon around - white line assist shows in between two others

I've never known why the tool disappears on me but I want it back.


Setup: Say there are 20 application icons on your desktop.



You have a brand new application icon show up for an application just installed placed at the end of all the other icons on your desktop.


You want to move this new application icon to another spot between two other application icons.


My issue: As I move the new application icon over the other 20 application icons, a white bar shows up where, if you released the new application icon will go between.


I don't know what this white line is named. I'd like to know it for future reference,


But above all, How do I activate this white line to work again. It was very useful for me because as I do the same thing the new application icon goes below where I intended it to go.

Hi Dale,

You can follow the steps provided below to rearrange Desktop icons in Windows 10:

• On your desktop, Right-click go to View on context menu.
• Uncheck Auto arrange icon.
• Then, Left-click and hold the icon you want to move.

Moreover by using Sort by in context menu, you can arrange the icons by
Name, Size, Item type, and
Date Modified.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

icons on taskbar in windows 10 has a white line under all programs list in it that are open, is there a way of removing it?
