  1. Boot partition deleted can i save the installation?

    Hello

I have bought a new ssd, because the old one was crashing badly
When installing windows on the new drive the installation put the boot sector in the old drive
I didnt realize this for weeks and then i finally decided to delete the partitions on the old drive and bin it
So i went and deleted the boot sector. The new drive only has the two partitions for my data c,d and the recovery partition

Can i make a new boot partition in diskpart?
I have found a way to redo the boot partition but for gpt and my drive is mbr
I am posting this from a new installation on the old drive but i would rather save the installation on the new drive
    Thank you very much

    :)

  2. /boot Partition?

    [Solved] /boot Partition?

Ok, I like playing around with multiple operating systems so I tend to have a few installed at a time. My issue is related to the bootloader. Every new Linux OS I install installs its own version of Grub. That's fine until you delete that partition.... *Bang Head :banghead:

I was thinking about creating a small (ie ~50MB) partition that /boot will reside on. This way I can have one copy of Grub that would boot my several OS(s) depending on what they are. I think this is a good idea so I can delete one OS's partition and still be able to boot the other OS(s).

Unfortunately, I am not an expert with bootloaders and I'm not really sure how /boot has to do with booting. Can someone tell me how feasible my idea is? I'm looking for a way to have multiple OS(s) but only one bootloader so when I delete one OS, the bootloader will still be intact.

Any ideas/suggestions/advice is appreciated! *Smile Boot partition deleted can i save the installation? :)

  3. /boot Partition?

If you have a newer CPU, I would suggest using some Virtualization software.

Virtual machine software that's free like Virtual Box or a "to buy" one like Vmware...

You can install, mess with and even straight up destroy OS's in a nice, safe little sandbox, and it doesn't hamper a thing *Wink Boot partition deleted can i save the installation? ;)

  4. Boot partition deleted can i save the installation?

Boot windows installation within a partition?

Damnit, I knew thats what you wanted with your first post! I deleted my post because JMCSLOB confused me lol.

Hm, if you Follow this guide (Replace words "flash driive" with 160GB hard drive) How to Create a Bootable Windows 7 or Vista USB Drive for both partitions and then to do a dummy install of windows 8 on the last part of the HDD it should give you the option to boot Windows 7/8 Installer or boot into windows 8.
Edit: On step 4 you will want to make sure you size the partition correctly... or you can use the windows gui tool in control panel.

Once you get that far you can just delete windows 8 from the boot menu using MSCONFIG and delete the partition.
