    Attempting a Windows Update to 1909 Crashes PC Every Time


    Hey there all! My PC is currently running version 1803, Windows 10 Education. About two weeks ago, I wanted to talk to some of my friends via Xbox Party chat so I attempted to install the Xbox PC Beta app. It told me that my Windows needed an update and I looked it up and I guess it needs to be on 1903 or higher. It attempted to do the update and installed it all but when it actually tried to update the PC it crashed into a black screen reboot every single time. I eventually gave up.

    About an hour ago, I purchased Xbox Game Pass for PC and apparently need to download the beta app to play it, so I ran the installer again and I am now running into the same issue. If I run that installer, my PC crashes halfway through. I attempted to go through the manual "Check for Updates" application, which tells me that my PC is up to date. A minute ago it prompted me there to update to 1909 and I attempted to do it from that screen only for it to crash halfway through - it actually started doing a crash loop where it would restart, attempt to install the update again, and crash my computer every 60 seconds or so - eventually it led me to a blue recovery screen where I just told it to boot anyways and I stopped that by quickly pausing all updates after a launch.

    Any solutions at all besides a fresh install?..

    Hi Sarthak

    No you do not need to update to 1809 - 1903 if you are currently on version 1803, then version 1909 will appear in the list of updates and will automatically be installed on your PC since 1803 has run out of support

    You do not need to do anything, 1909 is currently spreading around the world, just give it time to appear in the list of pending updates . . .

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
    Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
    If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

    P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
    Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
    What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

    all games crash!

    ive watch my temps and both the cpu and gpu are within normal ranges. when it freezes it simply freezes the image and stops the sound. i must reboot to get back to windows.
