  1. Plugging in USB after boot leads to unrecognized device

    Hi all,

I have had humongous problems since buying a new laptop (HP EliteBook 850 G5) and having Windows 10. The biggest problem by far has been the USB ports. I have tried absolutely everything, but I cannot get my problem resolved. Maybe, I am missing something, but I have done almost everything people advised others to do online.

    My problem is the following:

    1. When I plugin a USB device prior to booting, everything works fine (well, almost, it takes two restarts for it to work properly if it wasn't plugged in for the last boot. I've accepted that for now, but it's a joke nonetheless).
    2. If I plugin a USB device (the same one that would normally work) when Windows is up and running, it doesn't work. The device will show up in the Device Manager under "Other Devices" and shows an exclamation mark sign in yellow. It does recognize the name of the device. When clicking on the details, it says that the drivers are not installed. But it's a joke. Obviously, finding new drivers doesn't work either. I tested the device with the method described under 1. Then I unplugged it, restarted the computer and tried plugging it in after booting and it didn't work. The drivers should still be there from the last time it worked. The same problem occurs for USB sticks for me. Those shouldn't really require drivers.

Is there any way to help me with my problem?

    Thanks!

    :)

Unrecognized USB device (device descriptor request failed)

    Are you still around?

Sorry if none of that helped. I have tried pretty much everything else that has been suggested by others such as:

Uninstalling the unrecognized device and restarting

Uninstalling the USB drivers and restarting.

Trying every USB port on my computer.

Updating the drivers for every device

listed under universal serial his controllers in the device manager.

Please reply, I know there's got to be a way to fix this.

USB device not recognized - With no USB devices plugged in

I had the same 'USB not recognised' message pop up regularly a while back. At the time I had no USB devices plugged in, but I did have a USB charging lead connected to a 'dumb' device (no intelligence whatsoever, just charging its battery).

This battery had charged without problem for months before that, but shortly after the messages started to appear the charging failed. Both problems were solved with a replacement charging lead, though that too failed with the same symptoms about 6 months later. The current (newer and a different brand) charging lead has no such problem.

So, seems like a faulty USB lead can (possibly by allowing two of the connections to make contact when they shouldn't) lead to Windows incorrectly detecting a phantom device. Maybe you have a faulty USB socket and/or lead? Or some dirt has got into the socket and is bridging across two of the connections?

Plugging in USB after boot leads to unrecognized device

I plug in USB cable, no reaction from Windows XP. Help pls.

I can reply to this but not with anything particularly helpful but I have the same problem or similar in that my Nokia 6070 when plugged in as suggested in the solutions above, gives a windows error that says the device plugged into the USB port is unrecognized
by windows and an error has occurred. If I click on the bubble it tells me Unrecognized device on USB which isn't very helpful. They advise plugging it in again and if it doesn't work to change the device.

Also I can't find any reference to PC Suite in the connectivity settings of my phone. It only offers infra red or Packet Data. There is nothing in Packet data settings to allow PC Suite Connectivity. Is this because my O2 service provider hasn't offered the
facility with my actual sim card?

Nothing I do will make my PC recognise the phone when plugged in. So I wasted 12 pounds sterling on the official Nokia usb lead. The situation is becoming farcical.
