    I noticed odd behaviour with the "open file security warning" dialog box, but it happens to any dialog box.

    Here are the steps to reproduce:

    1. Create a .cmd file in which you call an installer with a dialog box.
    2. If you just Run the cmd-file, you will get modal dialog boxes, which is a good thing, I think: The user will always see the dialog box. But if you Run as administrator, the dialog boxes are shown in a modeless state. In this way the dialog boxes can be in the background and the user can wait forever, because it is possible he/she doesn't notice the dialog box (behind the command prompt).


    Is this wanted behaviour or is this a bug?


    BTW I am using Windows 10 1809 (Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.805])

    Hi,

    If your modal dialog has an input,textarea or an a element on it, right click it and select the "Inspect Element" from the context menu.

    IE has never allowed the f12 dev tool shortcut on modal or modeless dialog windows.

    You should post developer questions to a developer forum. You are using an IEAK configured version of IE. These are consumer support forums.

    To Download a Run Dialog Box Shortcut

    How to Create Run Dialog Box Shortcut in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10


    The Run dialog box provides an easy way to run commands and open items (ex: apps, files, folders, drives, etc...) from.

    The keyboard shortcut to open the Run dialog box is Win + R.

    This tutorial will show you how to download or create a Run dialog box shortcut for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    OPTION ONE [/i] To Download a Run Dialog Box Shortcut
    1 Click/tap on the Download button below to download the Run_shortcut.zip file.

    2 Save the .zip file to your desktop.

    3 Unblock the .zip file.

    4 Open the .zip file, and extract (drag and drop) the shortcut to your desktop.

    5 If you like, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to, or move this shortcut to where you like for easy use.

    6 When finished, you can delete the downloaded .zip file if you like.





    OPTION TWO [/i] To Manually Create a Run Dialog Box Shortcut
    1 Right click or press and hold on an empty area on your desktop, and click/tap on New and Shortcut.

    2 Copy and paste the command below into the location area, and click/tap on Next. (see screenshot below)

    3 Type Run for the name, and click/tap on the Finish button. (see screenshot below)

    You could name this shortcut anything you would like though.

    4 Right click or press and hold on the new Run shortcut, and click/tap on Properties.

    5 Click/tap on the Shortcut tab, and click/tap on the Change Icon button. (see screenshot below)

    6 In the line under "Look for icons in this file", copy and paste the location below, and press Enter. (see screenshot below)

    You could use any icon that you would like instead though.

    Vista+IE8 screenshot of F12 debugger while modal dialog is active.

    I also checked IE9 and IE10.

    They too launch F12 debugger while modal dialog is active.

    To summarize:

    IE8,IE9,IE10,IE11 with Vista,Win7,Win8.1 all launch F12 debugger while modal dialog is active.

    But Win10+IE11 does NOT.
