  1. What is this "GVGMK" that wants me to approve its sign-in request?

I recently activated Microsoft Authenticator. Now, I always get the prompt in my phone to "Approve sign-in request GVGMK". Is this a legit Windows app or service?

  2. Unable to approve family safety website permission request.

When one of my children requests access to a website I get an email and the link to approve does not seem to work.

I receive the following webpage message :

    This page can’t be displayed

This is not specific to one child or machine. This is the same irrespective of which browser I use. I have also experienced the same behaviour using different mail apps and machines.

This looks like some basic functionality broken. I really need to be able to approve websites on my Windows Phone too. If I'm out and one of the kids needs access to a website for their homework I need to be able to approve it on the go.

    TIA

  3. Inconsistent behaviour of the "approve screentime request" family setting page

I use screen time controls in Windows 10. Like everyone else, it seems, I reckon they're a major step backwards in functionality compared to previous versions of Windows (like, why can't you authorise a temporary extension locally, by entering your password?
Why do you have to do it online?)

When my children request an extension, I receive an e-mail like this:

    Hi Martin,

<child> is asking for more time on the PC today.

To give <child> time right now, turn off screen time settings temporarily:

For the next 15 minutes -- links to Sign in to your Microsoft account...

For the next 30 minutes -- links to Sign in to your Microsoft account...

For the next 1 hour -- links to Sign in to your Microsoft account...

For the next 2 hours -- links to Sign in to your Microsoft account...

For the next 8 hours -- links to https://account.microsoft.com/family/approve-time-request/?request=...

Afterwards, <child>'s normal screen time settings will resume

My question is this: when I click on one of the links, the "approve-time-request" page behaves inconsistently. Sometimes it immediately give them the extra time, and has a note at the top saying something like "You gave <child> <duration> extra time. Their
settings will revert to normal <later>."

But, seemingly randomly, at other times, the page loads, and I have to select the extra time I want to give them from a dropdown box that appears on the page.

    Why?

What is this "GVGMK" that wants me to approve its sign-in request?

a request for device descriptor request failed

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.
