  1. Does sync center automatically cache offline files?

I logged into a computer I use on occasion to watch movies. It is connected to the TV but also handle a small home video surveillance (Blue Iris). I noticed a message from the sync center that I had run out of cache space. It listed 3 movies as filling up the cache. I have no idea how this happened. The movies were stored on NAT and one of them I don't recall watching. The other two I think I watched them several months ago. They are all mp4.

How did this happen? Could this system have been hacked and someone downloading my movies? I disabled the sync center and do not recall ever enabling it. On my normal desktop system and my GF's system the control panel says the sync center has to be enabled so somehow, on that surveillance system, it got enabled.

Can the media player automatically enable it?

    :)

    Offline files not syncing

    Hi Ramsha,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

This could be due to the incorrect caching set for the network folder. You may want to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Open Share Properties
of the network folder and click on Advance sharing.
    • Choose Caching and select
No files or programs from the shared folder are available offline.
    • Save the changes and reboot the machine to see if it works.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

Sync Center Offline Files Not Working in Windows 10?

Note: I am not seeking an answer to "how can I have offline file access in Windows 10," I know plenty of ways to do that. I want an answer to "Is the Sync Center feature called Offline Files broken in Windows 10?" Thanks.

My Surface Pro 1 upgraded to Win10Pro 64-bit with very few troubles. I had kept a large local cache (18 GB) of network files on the device using Sync Center and the "Offline Files" feature in Windows 8.1. It worked great.

During the course of my upgrade, I disabled Offline Files and removed the offline files from the "CSC" folder where they live, in order to have enough free space for the upgrade.

After the upgrade completed, I used the Disk Cleanup Tool to free up the same amount of space I had before, to make room for my local file cache. I turned on Offline Files ok, then I connected to my network folders ok. When I right-click a network file,
I see an option "Always available offline" and it is not dithered - but nothing happens when I click it. The file remains only available while connected.

Everything in Sync Center is configured the way I had it before. There are no connection or file access problems with the network files, they open just fine on the device when I am connected to the network. I have the same amount of free disk space that
used before for these files. There are no errors in the CSC folder tree, access or otherwise.

Do not bother replying with a variation of: "just move all the files to OneDrive to solve your problem" This question is not about how I get offline access to files by any possible method, this question is about whether Windows 10 shipped with a non-working
Sync Center, or is there something wrong in my device only?

    Thanks!
