I have a thumb drive, that I've been using for the past few years, to archive pictures. Today, I wanted to add another picture--but to my surprise, I'm hit with the "You don't have permissions..." message. Why? And why can't I resolve this?

I tried assigning EVERYONE, FULL ACCESS--yet, I still can't access MY (I repeat, MY) thumb drive. Why am I being denied access to MY thumb drive??

Every so often I have to dance this dance with my computer (I STILL don't understand who came up with the concept of denying the owner of a computer, access to his/her own computer--but that's neither here nor there), but denying permission to a thumb drive?!?! Especially, if the thumb drive has been successfully used for years.

USB drive access denied No security tab Windows 10

I tried to access files from an usb flash drive and got access denied pop up, click continue & was asked to set the permission in security tab, except there is no security tab on the next popup.

My AutoPlay setting is Ask me every time.

The device shows up as Z drive under Windows Explorer but G under Device manager.

The event for the drive was device not migrated

This is the link I found that solved the problem couple years back but the menu items are different nowadays

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Rea

I think the problem is on permission or some sort of security restriction because

    1. The drive works on other machines & has no virus.

    2. I tried to Takeown on the drive but it won't take the command on a whole drive. And I tried to add Take ownership on the context menu, still didn't make any difference.

    3. Also turned off Windows Defender but didn't seem to matter.

This link didn't resolve the issue but I tried it anyway.

  3. Windows 10 access denied to several drives. No security tab on properties

I have problems with accessing several external drives from my Windows 10 HP laptop. I have already tried many of the suggestions on similar threads without success so posting in the hope anyone has ideas.

Issues occur with 1) a brand new USB flash drive and 2) an old WD external hard drive that works fine on my Windows 7 laptop.

I am set up as 'device administrator' in user accounts.

I get the 'access denied' message when plugging each device in. I am then asked to go to the security tab in Properties but there is no security tab.

I have tried running various commands to access hidden administration rights from other threads but nothing works.

This seems to be a relatively new problem because another external hard drive used to work a couple of months ago.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

USB drive access denied No security tab Windows 10

Access is denied when connecting USB drive

I am running WIn 10 Pro on an HP ProDesk 400 G4.
When I attach a thumb drive or Western Digital Passport hard drive to the USB port, the drive is assigned a letter, but if I try to access it, I get the message “You don’t currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access
to this folder.” When I click the Continue button, the next message that appears says “You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder, you will need to use the
security tab.” When I click on the security tab link, the Properties of the drive are displayed, but there is no Security Tab displayed, only General, Tools, Hardware, Sharing and Customize tabs. I am logged in
as an administrator, so I am not sure why I am being denied access. I have plugged the drives into other systems (including Win 10 machines) and have had no problem accessing the drives and data. Only on this desktop system, which because my old desktop system
crashed, had become my primary machine. I also found that if I boot into Safe Mode (via MSCONFIG), I can access the drive and data fine. So how can I fix this so I can access my USB drives in normal mode? I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks in advance.
