Windows 10: Backup Image not shown during recovery startup repair

Hey y'all; my system crashed. I inserted my OS USB and attempted to repair. This feature has failed in the past and it failed this time. At this point, i wanted to restore a macrium reflect image. I had the image on an external HDD. The external was connected yet windows could not find the image...what? I was forced to recover by using a Restore Point. Now i'm back up and running. Why would windows not find that image? Thanks

[HELP]Image recovery issues

Guys i am trying to fix my cousins Asus Eee netbook. It has a backup image file that is partitioned on the hard drive but when I go to use it the app will run through a few steps and stop. It is running Vista . Any suggestions?

 

System Image Backup

This issue can be caused by corrupted system files or hardware failures. Since secondary hard disk, portable drives, USB flash drive and repair discs won't work, we suggest that you perform a Startup Repair. Kindly follow these steps on how to perform a
Startup Repair:

• Boot to Advanced Startup Options:
  • Click the Windows logo and open Settings, click on Update & Security icon.
  • Click on Recovery on the left side, and click on Restart now under
    Advanced startup on the right side.
• On Windows Recovery Environment, click on Troubleshoot.
• Click on Advanced options.
• Click on Startup Repair.
• If prompted, select the OS you want to perform a startup repair on. Select an administrator account to provide credentials for approval, enter the password under the selected administrator and click
  Continue.
  
• Start Repair will now start "Diagnosing your PC", and attempt to automatically repair it. If repairs aren't successful, you'll see a summary of the problem in the log file.
  • Note: Sometimes it may take running Startup Repair up to 3 times and restarting the PC each time to fix the startup issue. To run Startup Repair again, perform the steps again.
