Windows 10: Connect to Specific Access Point

Hi.


There are several Access Points at my home. The WiFi adapor in my notebook should always choose the one with the best reception, but it seems it's just too stupid to do that reliably. This results in bad bandwidth or worse, being disconnected again and again.


Is there any way to convince Windows to only use one specific Access Piont, either by locking down the channel or the BSSID/MAC adress? (Hint: Other OSs can do that!)


Yes, I know, the simple answer would be to just give every AP a different name, but this is not the only device I use nor am I the only person using them, and all the others seem to have no problem at all choosing the best signal. I don't want to change the configuration of 10 or 15 devices that work just fine, only to get one in line that doesn't behave!


If Windows doesn't provide a setting to choose a specific AP over another - and I think it should, as this is also a possible security issue with rouge APs -, is there any third party software that does?


It seems I'm not the only one with this problem, other people have asked similar questions already, but all those topics seem to have been locked already.

Windows 10 Unable to Access Specific Access point

Greetings Microsoft Community,

i am a member in IT Department of Our Company, and we Got a New Laptop with Windows 10 Pro Installed.

when we tried to connect it to a Specific Access Point , the Access-point SSID disappear from the Connections List and if it randomly appears & connects , it suddenly disconnects and again disappear from the list.

Please Note that Other Windows 7 Laptops work fine and all mobile devices connect without any issue to same Access point

Finally , this access point is Located in the same room of this Windows 10 Laptop , without obstructions and again other devices in same room connect without issue

will appreciate your help and advice

 

Configure Wireless Access Point

I have an existing network using a Buffalo N300 wireless router configured as 192.168.11 and 255.255.255

I have recently purchased a Sony Bravia TV with internet capability and would like to connect a second router – the Belkin F5D-8233 – as an access point for the TV. As I already have the router, it is cheaper than me purchasing the Sony wireless dongle.

Essentially, the Buffalo is connected to my PC in one room and provides the internet access. The Belkin would be in another room, connected via Ethernet to the TV.

I have set the Belkin up to use 192.168.11.10 with the same SSID and security settings as the Buffalo. I have also set it up as an Access point.

I have connected the Belkin and the Buffalo together via the Ethernet LAN ports to try and do an initial configuration but I cannot see the Belkin when I do this even though the LAN ports light up.

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to configure the Belkin so that it gets internet access wirelessly in the other room?

I have been able to confure the TV so that it sees and connects to the Belkin but obviously this is of little use unless it can connect to the internet through that connection.

Access point not listed on wireless network connection

Hi forum
This is my first time.
I have a refurbished HP Laptop running Windows 10 Home which working fine.
The point is that a specific AP I need to connect is not listed among the network available in range.
I know that the access point is working because I have other laptop with Windows 7 in the same location which is detecting it.
