  1. Windows Defender Removal

I am using Windows 10 Home Version 1909 OS Build 18363.476

For Workplace login I use VPN which needs up-to-date antivirus, as every vpn mandates. I have Norton Security Ultra updated. Now as I am using Norton AV windows defender real-time protection is OFF and controlled by Norton. (Not able to turn ON real-time protection) . I have installed latest AV definition for Windows Defender as well.

But VPN always throws error as 'Windows Defender 4.18.1902.5' not up-to-date.

I have uninstall Norton and tried then its working fine and able to take latest AV definition from WinDef. When I re-install Norton, now again vpn throws error 'Windows Defender 4.18.1902.5' not up-to-date.

    I can see in path: C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\platform\4.18.1911.3-0

I want to remove windows defender completely so that vpn will only look for Norton AV.

Its personal laptop so I tried Registry changes but doesn't work.

OR even if Windows defender points to latest definition so that I can able to login via VPN.

    Output from sc query windefend

    SERVICE_NAME: windefend

    TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS

    STATE : 1 STOPPED

    WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 1077 (0x435)

    SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)

    CHECKPOINT : 0x0

    WAIT_HINT : 0x0

    :)

Unable to Remove Exclusions from Windows Defender

Thank you for posting back. If you trust a file, file type, folder, or a process that Windows Defender Antivirus has detected as malicious, you can stop Windows Defender Antivirus from alerting you or blocking the program by adding the file to
the exclusion list. It seems that it was added automatically. We suggest that you follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings and select Update & security.
    • Click Windows Defender.
    • Look for Exclusions and select Add an exclusion.
    • Navigate to the file, folder, or process, and select Exclude this file.

If the steps provided did not work, we recommend that you boot your device to
    Safe Mode
    and redo the process.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

  3. Windows Defender Stuck on Removing Severe Threat

Sure, you can put Windows Defender Offline on a jump drive.

But the emphasis of my post is that you no longer have to do that ...
you can launch Defender Offline from Settings > Update and Security > Defender > Defender Offline
    as described here: Defender Offline

simrick (safe mode Adwcleaner with a question about the reg entires) and Borg (tdssKiller, Rkill, possible manual reg entries removal) have offered other suggestions - it helps troubleshooting if you always follow the order of the suggestions and report the results.

When you've completed all on-demand scans and other remediation steps, run the following (both commands take a while to complete).

If there are any integrity issues reported in the results on the screen,

    Launch Command Prompt (Admin)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    SFC /ScanNow

    Windows Defender Released

Microsoft has released the final version of its Windows Defender anti-spyware utility. Windows Defender is a product of the Microsoft acquisition of GIANT Software. Previously known as Windows AntiSpyware, after a two years beta period it's now available for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 under the name Windows Defender. Windows Defender incorporates Real-Time Protection to monitor systems for spyware activity, automated spyware removal with scheduled scans, full integration with Internet Explorer 7.0 and automatic spyware definition updates from Microsoft. Windows Defender is available freely to all customers running a genuine copy of Windows. Microsoft has also announced that customers will each be allowed to report two support incidents for free with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
