Windows 10: Windows 10 lock screen stuck on same image only on one account

I know this gets asked a lot, but I believe this is a slightly odd one.


There are 2 accounts on my laptop:

My account (which is admin)

Family account


On the family account, windows spotlight works fine. However, on my account, everytime I log on the same spotlight image appears even though I selected a picture to be shown. Weird thing is, it only appears on log on. When I Press Windows key + L after logging on, the image I want does appear. This has been the case for a long while now (around version 1803).


Current windows version:1909


I've tried a bunch of workarounds, but they don't solve my issue.


I'm guessing a clean install of windows will solve this, but I don't really want to do that, so are there any other options?

Windows 10 stuck at lock screen, unable to enter password

Please do let us know the following to understand the issue and assist you better:

• What is the make and model of your device?
• Are you trying to log-in using Microsoft account or local account?
• Are you trying to enter pin or password?

Assuming that this issue might be because of keyboard, I suggest you to use on-screen keyboard from the lock screen and check if it helps.

Steps: From the lock screen, click on Ease of access and click on On-screen keyboard.

Can't Change Lock Screen Image


I've seen a report of someone claiming to fix this via
SFC /scannow
from an elevated (admin) command prompt
but that didn't work for everyone.

Check for any differences wrt to Win 10.

Given your timescale I appreciate System Restore would not be likely to be relevant, and even restoring a disk image (we strongly recommend disk imaging for recovery and backup) would be inconvenient.

Cannot locate custom Lock Screen images in W10 Pro 1809

Success.

Here is the solution, but it is imperative to proceed carefully.
There are also a couple of final steps that are missing and I had to think about it.

Retrieve Custom Windows 10 Lock Screen Image - Super User

This must be done as Administrator (True Administrator account) -

You must add "Administrator" to the additional fields not listed to get through the permission issues caused by NTFS.

There's quite a bit going on here, but the important item to understand is that for each "picture" folder, you need to add yourself as Administrator.
Just click on "Select a principal" and enter Administrator as the Object Name for each folder you wish to gain access to.
