Windows 10: Black screen when coming back from sleep mode

I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64 and the last two days I've had issues when coming back to the laptop after closing the lid and putting it into sleep mode. When I reopen the lid and press a button on the keyboard everything lights up like normal and starts running- except the screen.


I can't figure out what to do. Both times I had to force shut down the computer since nothing brings the screen back.. I have not yet lost any information this way but I don't want to take a chance.


What could be happening here?

window 10 sleep mode black screen

window 10 comes out of sleep mode but stays in a black screen only way to get windows to load is to restart my computer by turning off then back on

 

coming out of sleep mode get black screen and computer shuts down

Coming out of sleep mode desktop computer has black screen and shuts down after a couple minutes. Rolled back display driver and the same thing happens. Checked power options.
