No Thumbnails on Symbolic Links to Network Paths

This is the same problem as described in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...rk-paths/8e9497d5-ef71-429d-b8ca-cf74672dc8f5 but for Windows 10.

I have a NAS box \\DSxxx where I have a shared folder at \\DSxxx\Pictures. If I access this in Windows explorer directly everything looks fine. I can see thumbnails for the photos stored in this share and the details are filled with EXIF data when I view the file properties. But if I access the same folder through a symbolic link at %USERPROFILE%\NAS\Pictures, no thumbnails are shown and the file details are empty. I have confirmed the same works fine in Windows 7. It seems something happened with Windows Explorer starting at Windows 8 and the problem still remain unfixed in the latest version of Windows 10.

    :)

Symbolic link (Junction/s), how-to mklink? Please help with Junction?

Hi all, having been a member at Seven then Ten forums for a fair while I'm hoping to find a straight answer here..? Apologies in advance if this is too verbose.
Windows 10 system booting from (UEFI) NVME with 2xSSDs + 2 MHDDs for storage...

An application (Xperia Companion) which will not let me select or personalise the location for saving backups of my cellular phone data...

Think I found a fair definition of the differences at the Computer hope site which would suggest it's a Junction I need:
I want Xperia companion to save backups to F:\Sony Backups NOT the default C:\Users\GD\Documents\Sony. Would the Junction (link) allow me to to fulfill my wants and could someone please demonstrate the mklink commands needed?

    with thanks and regards,
    Dave

Exclude folder form Symbolic link ?

Xcopy and Robocopy are not third party apps - they are Windows 10 command line utilities, presumably being used here to make backup copies of user files. I wrote my own .bat file using Robocopy that does full or incremental backups of my user folder to an external or network drive of my choice. I very soon learned the perils of Robocopy and symbolic links...
The dangers of robocopy and symbolic links

The switch I had to use for Robocopy is:
/XJD :: eXclude Junction points for Directories.

This one may be of use to @JerometheGiraff:
/SL :: copy symbolic links versus the target.

You could try combining that with...
/XD dirs [dirs]... :: eXclude Directories matching given names/paths.
...but I'm not sure if that applies to symbolic links.

Get to Know Robocopy for More Powerful File Management
    Robocopy and a Few Examples
Type Robocopy /? in a command prompt for the full list of options or see:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/...mands/robocopy

Xcopy is far older than Robocopy and dates back to DOS 3.2. It supports the options:

    /EXCLUDE:file1[+file2][+file3]...
Specifies a list of files containing strings. Each string should be in a separate line in the files. When any of the
strings match any part of the absolute path of the file to be copied, that file will be excluded from being copied. For example, specifying a string like \obj\ or .obj will exclude all files underneath the directory obj or all files with the .obj extension respectively.
    ....
/B Copies the Symbolic Link itself versus the target of the link.

Type Xcopy /? for the full list.

    File Explorer not showing thumbnails

    Brink,

Many thanks for you reply. I have done all the steps you suggested, but no change,

When I open a folder containing photos, some open correctly but the vast majority open with thumbnails, but they very quickly get overwritten and you can not longer see the thumbnails.

    Are there any more suggestions?
