AzureAD: Mounting Shared Drives with Docker for Windows

    Hello,

I know Docker is not a Microsoft product but this issue relates to my AzureAD login.

This affects being able to use Volume mounts in Docker which is a large part of developing on Windows with Docker.

So in the Docker settings when you chose Shared Drives, pick a drive letter and click Apply it asks you for your Windows credentials. I assume this is for security reasons.

Normal users would enter their login details, click OK and it would work as expected.

However I'm not a normal user, I use AzureAD to sign in to Windows. I enter my creds (eg AzureAD\Username), then click OK. A second later the drive I chose disappears!

Here is a related open ticket on GitHub that is over 2 years old: https://github.com/docker/for-win/issues/1352

I understand that there's a local account workaround, but this doesn't work for everyone, and it's rather cumbersome.

Since Docker is an open source product I'm hoping that a developer from Microsoft might see this and be able to work with the Docker community to solve this issue.

  2. Sharing Drives in Windows for Docker

I am trying to run my ASP.NET Web Api on a Linux Docker image.

When I debug from Visual Studio, I am required to Share Drives for Docker.

    Environment: Windows 10 Pro

    Containers: Linux

    I tried the following steps: Docker Desktop-->Settings-->Shared Drives-->Select C and D-->Apply-->Enter Windows credentials-->Apply-->Updating Drives-->C and D are automatically unselected

    What I tried?

    • Reset Docker Desktop
    • Change my Windows password

    What am I missing here?

  3. Unable to access NAS drive when logged in using PIN to AzureAD account

    Thanks Prakhar,

I actually am logging in with a Office365 account, which shows as AzureAD\JorikCaljouw.

But it is interesting you mention AzureAD. I was expecting the PIN vs password issue for network shares to not be exclusive to AzureAD logins. So to double check I created a local user account mounted the same drive (also here my login username/password
is not the same as the network drive credentials). Then I added a PIN sign-in and low and behold...

It does work with a local account! Good to know.

I will post my query at TechNet forums now. But it's probably good for others to know (if they find this), that the issue seems to be only with Office365/AzureAD accounts with PIN.

    Regards,

    Jorik

  4. AzureAD: Mounting Shared Drives with Docker for Windows

Mounting Shared folders inside Docker machine on Windows

I have installed latest Docker Toolbox 1.11.2 on Windows 10. When I run $ docker-machine create -d virtualbox default - virtualbox creates image, everything is fine. Shared folders are configured by default:

When I connect to image using $ docker-machine ssh - shared folder is not mounted. And even if I try to mount it manually, I get the following error:
