Windows 10: Windows 10 not activated?

I recently got a new motherboard, and got a message that my windows was not activated but when I tried it said it failed. But gave some troubleshooting options and one was "I changed hardware" I clicked it and it brought me to a screen with my name and the windows version and it told me to choose one and activate but then would say that it was not possible and to try later. Personally I never bought windows 10 because the PC I had before I bought from someone and it had windows 7 and a free upgrade. Realistically I don't want to have to buy windows again but if needed I will have to obviously, but I really don't want to.

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
