    Optical Drives ejecting discs

The optical drives I have attached to my Win 10 PC have stopped recognizing discs.

The driver installed with the latest drivers and are physically recognized by the PC.

However, when a disc is inserted it is not recognized and autoplay does not happen. Furthermore, when using Explorer or any other application to select the drive, it ejects the disc and requests I insert a disc!

It's not the discs, as they work fine in other devices (PS4 etc.)

It's something to do with the installation of the drives on Win 10, as connecting the drives to another Win 10 pc results in the same experience.

It's something that happened sporadically over the last 6 months or so, and I put it down to unknown errors or blamed a single disc, but now the drives do not recognize any discs at all. They both worked perfectly fine for a long time.

They are both blu-ray writers, the PC is running Win 10 and has all Windows Updates applied. The two drives are from different manufacturers.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drives and I have updated the drivers but this has had no positive result.

Anyone have an idea on what could be causing this and a solution if possible!

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

Optical disc drive not working - OFF/ON Autoplay fixed it

    Hi all
I had purchased a brand new HP laptop last week. It came with WinX 1024 and I eventually managed to get it updated to the latest 1511 version.
Last thing I checked (before delivery to the intended user) was whether the optical drive worked. I was dumbfounded to find that it wouldn't read a disc. When I tried to open the drive the disc was ejected. Any disc I put it the drive just ground away continually and wouldn't open - and no sign of Autoplay.

I spend hours - literally hours - trolling the internet for a fix.
I tried setting different Autoplay settings with mixed and intermittent results.
I found the registry edits but was loathe to use them because the behavior I was seeing didn't really seem to fit :
    • I could see the optical drive but discs wouldn't open when inserted
    • I could add an external optical drive and I could see it as a new drive but discs wouldn't open when inserted
    • I fiddled with the Autoplay settings - once or twice this worked but most times it didn't
    • I could add a USB stick - it was recognized by Autoplay
    • Strangely I could burn a blank disc
    • The device manager seemed to have all the right drivers and no errors (I did a re-install at one stage)
    • I checked the WinX registry against a Win 8.1 registry - it was missing NoDriveTypeAutoRun in HKCU but other posts on the internet suggested this wasn't really an issue.

Then I decided to turn off Autoplay in the Control Panel, Save and restart the laptop.
Voila ... I could see the discs mounted on the optical drive and I could right mouse click to open them.

So then I turned Autoplay back on , saved and restarted the laptop.
Autoplay started working as expected ......... what the ?????

I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth at this point and I'm hoping the fix 'sticks'.

I am also hoping that this simple fix works for someone else.

  3. After installing printer, I can't eject the install disc

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

To reject the disc out I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Press “windows+X”, it will open the “file explorer”.
    • Then on the left hand side click on “This PC”.
    • You will find the “DVD Drive”, right click on it
    • And click on “eject option” and check whether the DVD is ejected or not.
Hope this information is helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

    Optical Drives ejecting discs

Alienware Area-51 optical disc drive NOT taking the disc into the computer.

the optical drive is built in, meaning NO spindle comes out, so I tried pushing the disc into it, but it just wont take it into the computer, almost as if it is being blocked (but it isnt since it is empty) and the only button next to it is the EJECT button.
Please help, It wont take any discs in whatsoever, they just sit there halfway in the dvd drive. HELP! I'm tired of speaking to robots over technical support.
