  1. Black screen when booting from USB. Seemingly out of options. Tried a lot of things.

My girlfriend has recently gotten into gaming and she decided to build a computer. I will put the parts below. I have built myself 4 computers over the years and have helped a few friends here and there so I consider myself to be somewhat experienced. However, after we finished building her computer, we flashed the BIOS with the new version and we did the usual install windows from a USB and everything worked great. Windows was correctly installed and she was installing firefox, steam, etc. and playing around with her new keyboard when the computer crashed. It then went into a boot cycle where it was getting stuck on "automatic repair" loops which ended in a blue screen and could not boot into safemode. We booted into BIOS and I figured I could just fresh install windows from scratch seeing as it could have just corrupted or something weird like that. I used MSI's secure erase+ feature from the BIOS and erased the SSD. After restarting the computer, it boots into a black screen with spinning dots and gets stuck there. I tried removing a stick of ram and then it got to a windows logo screen and got stuck there. I will provide a list of everything we have tried down below but the problem is when the USB with windows is plugged in, it gets to one of three things and freezes: a black screen, a black screen with dots going in circles, and a black screen with a windows logo on it. I have searched the internet and there seems to be a LOT of people who have this problem, however, for everyone its a different solution. I am thinking that my problem is unique as I know everything works fine since I've installed windows fine the first time and was able to get everything working. Please has anyone had experience with something like this and what did you do? My thought is something is different about the motherboard after the first install but I cannot figure it out.

TL;DR: Built new computer. Installed windows. It worked but crashed and bluescreen looped. Erased SSD and now cannot install windows from USB. Stuck at black screen. Very desperate at this point.

    Build Parts:

    AMD Ryzen 5 3600

MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX (I updated BIOS to newest version)

    Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB

    Samsung 860 EVO SSD

    Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1660 Ti

    Everything i've tried:

Replaced RAM with known working RAM - same problem

Replaced Graphics card with known working - same

Messed around with BIOS settings including changing boot order so USB is first

Replaced SSD with known working HDD

    Unplugged all periphs

Reinstalled windows installer on the flash drive

Changed format of flashdrive from FAT32 to NTFS

Flashed MOBO bios to previous version

Cleared CMOS and restored factory settings to MOBO

    Fully formatted SSD

Other things I am probably forgetting but please help.

    :)

Black screen after 'Starting Windows' sequence

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.

Try this quoted from "VisiHow" article "Repair Windows 7 Black Screen of Death":

They, also, have some other options there, too.
Google search and you will find a lot of the "Windows Black Screen of Death with cursor" fixes.

Re: All boot options are tried...

    Hi Elda,

If the boot sequence didn't work, then we suggest try running the laptop in safe mode. To do this, here's a few steps to follow:

    • Power down your laptop.
    • Turn it back on again.
    • When you turn it back on, press F8 repeatedly until the power on option appeared.
    • If you see the boot option "Safe Mode with Networking", choose that option.
    • See if you can boot up in Safe mode.

We'll look forward to your response.

windows 10 can't boot, black screen.

    Hello,

    • What is the make and model of you system?
    • Do you receive any exact error message?
There can be many reasons for booting to a black screen. These screens may appear with or without the mouse pointer. The main causes observed are:

    • The video output is being sent to an unexpected port
    • Problems with the driver for your display adapter
I suggest you to refer the below link and follow the suggestions provided by Sharath Srinivasa on August 7, 2015 and see if this helps in resolving the issue.
