Windows 10: 1903 update: black screen, have to force restart, freeze at 89%

Yes I tried SFC, yes I tried DISM, yes I tried chkdsk, yes I tried unplugging every USB thing, yes I tried the media creation tool, yes I tried auto-reparing Update, yes I tried freeing disk space, yes I tried updating my video drivers, yes I tried turning it off and on again. No dice.

For what it's worth, I'm using a DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

Creators update freeze. 1st Freeze on blank screen then at 89%

Same results after clean boot. After 1st update restart hangs on blank screen, after forced hard boot hangs on "working on Updates 89%" after next forced hard boot it restores previous version.

I have the exact same issue ... First blank screen freezing then after hard restart .... It resumes and gets stuck at 89% and no responce ....... If you found any solution please share it

Tried to update to Creators. Screen froze with a blank unresponsive screen. Did a HARD restart then update continued to 89%. Then froze for several hours. Did a hard restart and was restored to previous version.

Disabled Norton protection and tried again. Same result.

Had to disable updates until this gets resolved since I cannot afford to spend hours going through this process every time I want to use my computer.

Are there things that need to be disabled/uninstalled for this update to work? If so, why does the update program not know this and suggest disabling/uninstalling these things? Or even doing so automatically while generating a list of what needs
to be restored? Or maybe restoring them automatically?

In fact, if this is necessary, why did MS release the update? They should get it fixed before releasing it.
