  1. A USB Hub prevents Windows shutting down properly

    Hey guys,

I have a weird issue, this issue came back from release 1903, where my system wont shutdown, but instead, restarts.

After several hours of troubleshooting, I realized that my USB hub is the cause of the system not shutting down properly. A quick visit to disable the "Generic USB Hub" on the device manager fixes it.

I tried Windows Server 2019 version 1809, and this weird issues not happening. Or does windows changed the way on how USB works?

My USB Hub is something like this

Any idea on how this might happened?

  2. USB HUB

    Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
    • Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab.
    • Click Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
    • Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
    • Select Disable.

Keep us in the loop with the result.

  3. win 10 will not shut down properly

    Hi Richard,

Usually, this issue occur due to outdated or corrupted device drivers, services or processes which are not shutting down properly, or third-party programs that prevents your computer to shut down properly. For better assistance, we'll be needing additional
    information:

    • Have you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • Is this an error message Explorer\windows\settingsync\BackgroundUploadTask? If yes, where are you getting this message?
    • If possible, can you send us a screenshot?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you run the Power troubleshooter as an initial troubleshooting step. To run the Power troubleshooter, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Settings.
    • Choose Update & Security from the list.
    • Click Troubleshoot in the left pane of the window.
    • Under Find and fix other problems, select Power
      and click Run the troubleshooter.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.

A USB Hub prevents Windows shutting down properly

    USB Hub

Hub is on-line when re-installing drivers, then when PC is shut-down and next time it's started up again USB hub has gone again until drivers are installed again .

This does not happen with the early version of Win 10 i have on another drive , its only after that feature update that this fault happened
