New Win 10 PCs cannot see other PCs on network

I have 4 computers on a local private network. Previously these were 2 Windows 10 laptops which had been upgraded from Windows 7, 1 Windows 7 desktop and 1 Linux desktop. At that time all 4 computers could see every computer on the network and were set up so each could share files in public folders. Since I replaced one laptop and the Windows desktop with new Windows 10 computers the new computers cannot see any other computers on the network.

One half of networking is still working as the remaining upgraded laptop can see both the new desktop and the new laptop and can access files, modify files and delete files on those computers. But the new computers see nothing.

Interestingly if I re-attach the old Windows 7 box to the network it can still see all of the computers on the network but curiously both the new desktop and the new laptop can see the old desktop and access files in the public folders.

There must be something different about the new Windows boxes but, so far, I have been unable to determine what.

The three Windows 10 computers are all set up the same. Each is connected to the network as a private network, each has network discovery turned on, file and printer sharing turned on and public folder sharing turned on. All of the Windows PCs are members of a workgroup called WORKGROUP. All of the firewalls are set to allow file sharing on the trusted network. I have ensured that Function Discovery Resource Publication and Function Discovery Provider Host services are set to start automatically. ‘SMB Direct’ is checked as is ‘Use Sharing Wizard’.

The only differences I can find are that each of the Windows PCs calls the network something different. The new Laptop calls it Network 2 (which is what the old desktop calls it), the new desktop simply calls it Network and the old laptop uses the wi-fi network SSID even though it is now connected via ethernet. Surprisingly the two new Windows 10 PCs are running version 1809 (build 17763.914) of Win 10 Pro while the old laptop is running version 1903 (build 18362.535) of Win 10 Pro. I can synchronise them if necessary but am reluctant to risk breaking something else unless that is likely to solve the problem, particularly as I suspect I can only now upgrade to version 1909.

I am running out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions which might resolve this issue?

    :)

Win 7 PC can't see shared folder of Win 10 PC

I have small home network. The Home Group sharing capabilities are working both ways.

For some reason the Win 10 PC do not appear in the network list in my Win 7 PC, while the Win 7 PC do appear in the Win 10 network list (and can access it's shared folders).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?
