    Bluetooth issues on Surface Laptop 2, Windows 10


    This is actually driving me mad, and I'm going around in circles.

    I have the Microsoft Designer Keyboard and Mouse for my Surface Laptop 2. I have a set at home, and at work.

    About a week ago, my mouse just stopped pairing. I can see it still listed under device manager, but it won't connect. I tried removing it from the devices and re-adding, but when attempting to pair it again, it says "try connecting your device again". I don't know if this is the case for my work mouse too, as I haven't been to the office yet.

    Some things I've found:

    • Event viewers shows the failure to connect:

    The device (mac address) is trying to distribute an Identity Resolving Key that is already used by a paired device. The pairing was rejected, if the intent was to pair with this device, you may need to first delete the existing pairing information.

    I don't know how to delete it? Checking some areas in the registry, I can't find it.

    This is listed as BTHUSB, Event: 35. I can't find much about this on the web.

    • I'm unable to uninstall the device

    I can't uninstall it. It keeps coming back every time. I can't even uninstall the Bluetooth adapter driver. It comes back! This is the Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter.

    • sfc /scannow

    Showed no issues.

    • Registry fix using CCleaner

    No fix


    I used this once to get my Bose headphones working. I have seen that people have said to try to use it again and to unpair all devices. I do it and all devices are gone from the Settings GUI, but are still in the Bluetooth list on Device manager.

    Has anyone else had issues with Bluetooth in Windows 10? In particular, on their surfaces? I have the latest OS version, 1909, with the latest patches, and also Surface Firmware. I've tried rolling back drivers with no luck.

    I guess I need to delete the entry, as stated in the event viewer error report. I just don't know how?

    Edit: Just to note that from the day it worked to the next day when it didn't, I didn't perform a Windows Update.

    SOLUTION: I got it sorted.

    I found the device in registry.

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Devices

    From the mac address in event viewer, I knew which one it was. I deleted it and restarted the laptop. I was then able to connect the mouse again.
