  1. Windows Search is completely hosed

I'm having some major issues with Windows Search after a recent update. I'm on the insider build, but it doesn't seem to be an issue relating to that as far as I can tell.

First problem was that search didn't work at all. searchapp.exe kept crashing, but I eventually managed to resolve it by uninstalling search and reinstalling it.

Since then it just...doesn't really work. I get web results, but it doesn't seem to find anything on my system. Searching in File Explorer or the settings app doesn't work whatsoever and always returns no results.

I've tried resetting search and rebuilding the index, but this doesn't seem to do anything either. When searching for apps I sometimes see strange files with what appear to be GUIDs. I'm thinking there's a corrupted cache somewhere that hasn't been cleared, but I have no idea where this would be located. All the info I can find on the internet is from before Microsoft decoupled Cortana and Search, so it's out of date and not relevant as various file/reg locations have been altered.

Just wondering if anyone here had any ideas?

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows Search is completely hosed :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
