'No signal' on external monitor when connected to laptop via HDMI

'No signal' on external monitor when connected to laptop via HDMI

    Hi,

I've just updated my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I plug my laptop into my LG 4K TV or an external monitor using an HDMI cable there's a "No signal" message on the monitor/TV. Prior to updating to Windows 10 I used to be able to plug it in via HDMI to the TV and it would automatically display correctly.

    Here's my laptop details:

Windows version: Windows 10 Home 64 bit, version 1909
Model of laptop: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU, 2.53 Ghz
    Memory: 8GB ram
Graphics drivers: Intel HD Graphics and AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series

I've tried the following suggestions to no avail. I've tried:

    -two different HDMI cables.
-changing the order in which the cables are plugged into the laptop/TV, as well as after a restart.
-connecting to an external monitor as well as the TV.
-updating both the display adapters both are up to date.
    -rolling back the display adapters.
-using the windows key + p command to toggle between 'duplicate' and 'extend' screen arrangements
-using the 'detect' button for multiple displays in the display settings pressing this does nothing

I've noticed when it is connected, under both the display settings and the intel graphics control panel, there is only a single display listed that of the the laptop. There is no second display listed under the 'multiple displays' panel. Also, when I plus the cable into the laptop from the TV, the TV will bring up an 'HDMI 3' selection box when clicking on it, however, 'no signal' results.

Does anyone have any other ideas how to get the laptop to display on my TV via HDMI?

Thanks very much for the help

    :)

  2. Monitor not working - HDMI has no signal

Yesterday, my ASUS monitor was working fine connected to my HP spectrum using Windows 10. Today, the monitor delivers a no HDMI signal message. I have restarted both laptop and monitor, replaced the HDMI cable, updated display driver and still no luck.
    Suggestions welcome.

  3. HDMI Monitor not connecting to Laptop *No Signal*

    Hi guys

I have two monitors connected to my laptop - one connected via HDMI and the other connected via VGA. Yesterday both worked 100% fine and have done for months. This morning, the HDMI monitor did not switch on while the VGA connected monitor worked fine. I
have googled/youtube'd and tried everything I've come across:

    - Tried restarting with just the HDMI connected

    - Tried updating/installing the latest graphic driver

    - Tried installing the latest monitor drivers

    - Tried plugging in/checking all cables

    - Tried switching the HDMI for one I know is working

    - Tried installing a Driver Update manager - ran the scan - all good with the drivers

The VGA connects just fine but the HDMI always throws up the issue "No Signal".

One thing I have noticed is that yesterday, I could right click the volume option and select which of the devices I wanted to use but today that option has disappeared.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  4. 'No signal' on external monitor when connected to laptop via HDMI

Vga monitor connected to my laptop via a hmdi port

    Hello Andrew,

The VGA connector is a video connection for sending analog video signals to the monitor or TV. Unless you are planning to connect to a special monitor, such as a plasma or LCD TV that has a DVI connector, connect your Primary monitor using
    the VGA connector.

The HDMI connector is a digital connection type for transferring high-definition digital video signals AND audio signals. When used with a compatible monitor or television, HDMI has the capability of carrying true high-definition video and
audio as well HDCP protected content. If your computer has HDMI audio, it should be set as the default audio device in Windows audio properties (available from Windows Control Panel). The monitor or TV with HDMI must have speakers to hear audio.

We suggest you try the steps below and check if this works.

    • Open the "display settings" in your computer and activate output to the screen. You can either mirror content of your computer or extend the display just like a dual monitor screen.
    • Check the "External Inputs" of your monitor menu. You will need to change the default "Video 1" to a different selection which may be "HDMI 1" or "Video 2" depending on how you have made the connection.

Important: Make sure you connect the cable to the laptop before turning on as sometimes it may fail to recognize external display.

Let us know with the outcome.
