Windows 10: Picture folder not showing thumbnails-tried several fixes but they didn't work.

I am running Windows 10 64 bit. The picture icons just stopped showing thumbnails and I can't get them to turn back on. It is affecting all users on this PC.


Here is what I have tried so far that hasn't worked:


-I already confirmed that in pictures folder-view-options-change folder and search options-view-always show icons never thumbnails is NOT checked. I checked it, waited a while, then unchecked it.


-I used disk cleanup to clear thumbnails.


-Control panel-system-Advanced system settings-advanced-performance settings, show thumbnails is checked. I unchecked it, clicked ok, waited, then went back in an checked it and clicked ok.


Any other suggestions?

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

 

thumbnails not opening...tried everything

In Windows 10, I can't get pictures to show as thumbnail previews. I've done the following three things that were suggested on this site. What is the problem...

I opened the folder in Windows Explorer and clicked the down arrow next to Views at the top. I chose Medium icons and see if the thumbnails would start working again....they
did not .

So, I also clicked on Organize, then Folder and Search Options. I clicked the View tab and made sure that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" does
not have a check mark next to it. It did not.

And finally I tried....

I opened the Control Panel. . Clicked on the System icon. Clicked on the advanced system settings link. Under Performance, I clicked on the Settings button. In the Visual Effects tab, "Show thumbnails instead
of icons” is checked.

There are a few pictures that show as thumbnails, but the majority are still just icons. They all came up as thumbnails a month ago. What is the problem and how can it be fixed?

 

Thumbnails do not show for pictures

I did everything up to step 5.

At step 6. I typed Edit Group Policy in the search window and nothing happened.

No User Configuration option showed in fact no options appeared.

I get a list of 'best matches'. One says 'Edit Group Policy' referring to the control panel. When I click on it I get a 'Can't find' message. Please help. This is frustrating.

The system runs fine for a few hours but then suddenly when I open a new folder in file explorer I get a never completing green progress bar in the address window and instead of thumbnails I get icons. In order to get things back to normal I have to restart
the whole system.

That works for few hours and then the problem starts up all over again.

Again, Please HELP.
