Twice today I’ve found my HP desktop computer unresponsive with the fan whirring furiously. The screen was black and the keyboard was unresponsive. I was able to shut down the computer using the power button. I waited a few minutes and then was able to restart the computer and it seemed to be running fine. This happened twice. Finally, I shut down the computer normally and wanted to keep it off overnight until this could be investigated. I went back about an hour later and the computer had restarted spontaneously with the fan whirring furiously again. I pushed the power button and shut it off. Restarted it and all seemed to be fine. I have now shutdown the computer normally and unplugged it from power.

My computer is well maintained and runs Windows 10 and all up to date with updates. No alerts or obvious issues. No virus or malware alerts.

I have a call in to my computer technician but wondered if anyone has ever heard of something like this. How can a shutdown computer restart itself? Is this a hardware issue or software issue.

    :)

Does this computer build have compatibility problems? Opinions welcomed!

Lets start with what you're going to use this computer for, not what you want to put in it.

Rules/steps to building a computer (in chronological order):
First rule: Determine what your needs are.
    Second rule: Define your budget.
    Third rule: Pick parts.
Fourth rule: Review parts several times.
    Fifth rule: Buy said parts.
    Sixth rule: Build it.

You are on rule/step 1. Go through the list until you're done.
