Windows 10 slow to boot or reboot after removing a bad drive.

For clarity, I have windows 10 installed on a solid state drive, while most of my larger files are on a 4TB hard drive.

However, the hard drive failed recently, it suddenly became very slow to access any files, and was running at 100% on the hardware monitor constantly. I felt that it was slowing down the rest of my computer's processes, so I disconnected that secondary drive.

After disconnecting the drive, normal processes are working fine, but I have noticed that now it is taking me much longer to boot or reboot. I usually shut my computer down after I'm done using it for the day, and it used to be able to boot in under 10 to 20 seconds. Now it usually takes around a minute or more.

I am wondering if the drive being disconnected may have impacted my boot time, or if I should look to other areas like the SSD itself or my motherboard for issues.

    Thanks you for your help.

    :)

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?

    windows 10 slow boot

im just going to throw this out there , there used to be a bug in windows that if you installed on a ssd, and had a hdd in the system, windows would put some boot info on the mechanical hdd, and cause slow boot,
because of that i always disconnect any mechanical hdd from the machine before i install on a ssd, it could be that, or just a bad mechanical hdd could also be a bad dvd drive , disconnect them 1 buy 1 and boot and see if any diff , and if you disconnect on of your mechanical hdds and it dont boot you will know what the problem is , and if disconnecting one makes it boot faster then that hdd/dvd drive most likely on its last legs, although a bad hdd normally makes post take longer not boot
