  1. I need help with Windows 10 upgrade. Linux partition.

Hi, I decided to run a free upgrade on my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 with a genuine license. My computer, which was given to me, has a partition for Linux. In fact, it defaults to Linux during the opening screen if you do not choose Windows 7. As I was running the upgrade, everything seemed to be going well until it began working on updates. The first time it restarted, I was able to select Windows 7 and resume. The second time, however, I came to a black screen which reads: error: no such partition. Entering rescue mode. grub rescue>

I’ve tried the ls method and checked each partition, as demonstrated in a YouTube video, and for each one it said: File system is unknown. I’ve also tried using the set method and after I typed in insmod normal and hit Enter, it returned the same error: no such partition. I’ve since been stuck on this screen and there hardly seems to be any solutions, besides restoring the hard drive back to Windows 7. The problem is that I did not create a disk image prior to running the upgrade. My question is this, is it possible for me to exit this screen and continue upgrading to Windows 10, despite the Linux partition?

  2. Windows 10 Installer deletes linux partition

I have a Ubuntu and windows dual-boot and while upgrading to widows 10 during one of the restarts grub wouldn't boot a partition and went into recovery so I used a Ubuntu live CD and GParted informed
me that my linux partition was missing. It was listed as un-allocated. This means that the Windows 10 installer deleted that partition. (The helpdesk told me to post it here)

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

  4. I need help with Windows 10 upgrade. Linux partition.

    Linux Partition

I have ubuntu in a separate partition along with windows 8.1 installed on my pc. Would the partition be affected if I do a clean upgrade to windows 10.? I want the upgrade to erase everything in the windows partition only and install there from scratch
without affecting the linux partition. How do I accomplish that?
