  1. Restore applications and desktops to pre-shutdown state

I discovered the multi desktop feature of Windows 10 and so far, I really like it because it makes organizing things oh so much easier for me - potentially.

What makes it kinda lacking for me is the missing persistence, meaning that I lose the assignments of the respective windows after I restart my computer.

This is also the reason why I rarely ever use this feature: Reconfiguring is, although not quite effort intensive, very repetetive and something I do not like to do very often.

For instance, it would be great if my IDEs would go to my second desktop instantaneously, as well as a dedicated window of Chrome that I use for researching things online.

My general desire is to have my system back in the state where I left it when I shut it down, speaking in applications I have opened.

Memory corruption is always something that can happen because of outside factors think of ECC RAM, so restarting is required, but I'd still like to lose as little time to setting my system back up again as possible.

So, is there anything that I could do except maybe writing a little program that keeps a lookout on which applications were running when I initiate a shutdown and starts them again once the system is running?

    Big thanks in advance!

    :)

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.

    ShutDown button in desktop (Win-10)

yeah it works but i have another problem with this combination.

Shutdown/Restart shortcut force windows to shutdown without letting other apps to save their data, that is a bit nuisance.

    for eg:

Utorrent is force closed and when i start the pc, it re-calculate all the toorents in the list even those that are already downloaded and currently in seeding state. It happens when utorrent is not closed properly.

So is there any way to NORMALLY shutdown/restart/loggoff/lock windows pc?

    ShutDown button in desktop (Win-10)

    Hi Marcel,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

You can create shortcut for Shutdown, restart and sleep by following the below steps:

    • First right-click on the desktop, choose New and then Shortcut.
    • In the shortcut location box, you’ll need to enter the correct command, which I’ve listed for you below.
    • For Shutdown type the below command:
    Shutdown.exe -s -t 00

    • For Restart type the below command:
    Shutdown.exe -r -t 00

    • For Sleep type the below command:
    rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

After you click Finish, you should now have a new icon that you can double-click to immediately shutdown, restart, or lock your computer.

Hope this information helps, for further assistance please reply.
