Windows 10: Why are app icons missing when I use the search button on the taskbar?

I turned off some animations to enhance laptop speed, but now when I search for apps here, the icon doesn't show. They show normally in the start menu. I've forgotten where I accessed the settings, however. How do I make the icons show?

App Icons Missing

Hi Donna,

Corrupted applications are the possible causes why your program icons are missing after an update. To isolate your issue, we'd like to clarify a few things:

• When you hover your mouse over your taskbar or Start menu, are you seeing the icons for your apps?
• Have you tried searching for a specific app and check if it will appear on the search results?

System Icons on taskbar

Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

Missing Taskbar Icons


If you right click on the task bar itself does the properties screen appear? When bringing that up the option to Always combine taskbar buttons as well as Combine when taskbar is full and Never combine are three options. If somehow that got changed to the Never combine setting that would explain the appearance of the second button.





The sight of a line rather icon however suggests something goofed in the system registry. If you had a good restore point made for this was first seen you could roll everything a day or week even before it was first seen. Also take notes on everything other then 10 updates that went on just before seeing this in case a 3rd party app is the culprit.
