  1. Windows Photo App thrashing Disk using Runtime Broker

More i'm posting just an answer as i can't find any other active threads to submit this.

When i fist saw windows Photos i though cool and had it running, It does very limited editing and trys to 'watch' you photos to build meta-data, face recognition etc. I did not realise it was a going to be such a parasite.

It was monitoring a few drives on my PC and also on One Drive. As my OneDrive use grew, my PC got slower and SLOWER and became unbearable.
The clue was a windows process called Runtime Broker; It runs when any of the built in Universal Apps in windows 10 is running, Runtime Broker was always busy and always hitting disk access.

Luckily good old Google found me a page saying to turn off the monitored folders in Photos, settings - this effectively turns Photos off as it has nothing to do - Doh, if you do relaunch it it gets busy again actively monitoring all the folders ad onedrive areas you just turned off; So you have to turn it all off again.

So now, from my PC's point of view, its like Billy Ocean might say "Suddenly life has new meaning to me"
Its really like my PC has a new lease of life and is just sitting there waiting for my next request, perhaps i can finally try processing files again with out fighting the PC.

Hope this helps some one else too.

Now my disk is pleasantly quiet waiting for use.

Photo app causing runtime broker to hog resources

I had the photo app set as my screen saver. I have noticed that after the screen saver stops, runtime broker is using a lot of memory and disk access. Switching the screen saver to another option other than Photo app seems to solve the problem. According
to the Microsoft website this behavior of runtime broker is often due to a faulty app. Well it seems they've got one.

I would prefer to use the photo app for my screen saver, so Microsoft, please fix your app.

  3. Runtime Broker uses CPU and Memory when the Windows Store Facebook app is run

    Hi Gordon,

Please be informed that Runtime Broker is a Windows process in Task Manager that helps manage permissions on your PC for apps from Windows Store. It ideally uses a few megabytes of memory, but in some cases, a faulty app might cause Runtime Broker to
    use up more.

Stop runtime broker from Task manager, and try to run App troubleshooter and check:

    Try the followings steps:

    • Click "Search" and type "Troubleshooting" without quotes and hit enter.

    • Click “Hardware and Sound”

    • Select Windows store apps.

    • Click next to run the troubleshooter.
Please post back with the updated status to assist you further.

    Thank you.
