  1. Reaper.exe application hanging, trying to figure out root cause

    Hi,

I have had issues with my audio recording app hanging recently and I think it has something to do with my audio interface. All I actually want is to get some information out of this crash log to locate the root cause:

    Some background information:
    - I upgraded my Audio interface hardware back in December 2019 and after that the issues started.
    - Old audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 1st gen drivers were uninstalled and replaced with new ones for current AI Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen.
    - Right after that I started to have these issues and I really think it has something to do with the drivers and maybe one of the VST plugins being incompatible with them.
    - I have contacted Focusrite support but so far none of the troubleshooting solutions we've tried out has worked. Even with the latest beta drivers the issue remains.

    - Windows 10 64-bit, latest updates installed 2 days ago. So far this has not been an OS issue as far as I'm concerned.

So I was finally able to find some kind of crash log when Reaper hangs and needs to be force quit. Is there anything which could point me to the right direction for finding the real culprit?

Faulting application name: bad_module_info when trying to run exe installer

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps, please reply with the following details:

    • Do you receive any error message when you run the .exe installer?
    • Which version of Windows is installed on the computer currently? To check type:
winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter.

As you have mentioned that you have Kaspersky installed on the computer, it could be that Kaspersky is blocking the installers to run. I suggest you to try disabling Kaspersky and see if that helps. Please follow the steps to disable Kaspersky:

    1. Type Kaspersky in the search bar on the
Taskbar and open it from the search results.
    2. Now, click on Settings.
    3. Click on Additional and then click on
      Self-Defense.
    4. Clear the check box for
      Enable Self-Defense to disable Kaspersky.
    5. If you receive any prompt, click on Continue.

Note: Disabling Antivirus software may open the computer to threats. Make sure to enable it after performing the troubleshooting.

You can also check if the application that you are trying to run is Quarantined by Kaspersky. If the application is Quarantined, restore the application and see if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Type Kaspersky in the search bar on the
Taskbar and open it from the search results.
    2. Click on More tools.
    3. In the Tools window, click on
      Quarantine
      .
    4. Look for the .exe installer that you are trying to run. If you find the installer, right click on it and select
Restore to restore it to its original location.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

Reaper.exe application hanging, trying to figure out root cause

    some .exe files hang

In the last 48 hours, some .exe files do not execute. If started from explorer, explorer hangs. No error messages. These files run on another Win 10 machine. Nothing obvious in the event viewer. I note that *.exe file cannot be deleted when the system is in this state. I must reboot to regain access to the .exe file. sfc /scannnow shows no errors.

    Any suggestions?
