Problems with File Explorer since Windows 10 Update in July 2019

Since installing a Windows 10 Update onto my pc on 27th July 2019 I have been experiencing problems with displaying photos in a folder in File Explorer. This folder contains nearly 16,000 photos and videos taken since December 2010.

I set this folder up by right clicking in a space in the folder then left clicking on 'Arrange By' and then left clicking on 'Month' and, before the Windows Update, Windows 10 File Explorer CORRECTLY used 'Date Taken' on photos and 'Media Created' on videos to put the files into the correct grouping 'folder'.
Since the Windows Update the system is INCORRECTLY using 'Date Modified' on both photos and videos to display the files in a Month and Year 'group'. So, photos and videos are being displayed in the wrong Month and Year 'group'.
I have worked out that if a photo or video is modified e.g. by rotating a photo or changing it's 'Date Taken' or by changing the 'Media Created' date on a video the system then CORRECTLY uses the 'Date Taken' on a photo or the 'Media Created' date on a video to display the file in a grouping 'folder'. However, having got all the 16,000 photos and videos being displayed in the their correct 'groups' I have found that as time passes, Windows 10 seems to be once again displaying more and more of the photos and videos using their 'Date Modified'.

To demonstrate this, on 18th January 2020 I finished modifying the photos and videos to get them all displayed in their correct Month and Year 'groups' i.e. windows 10 using the Date Takenon photos and 'Media Created' on videos. There were 15,608 photos and videos taken from December 2010 to July 2019 all being displayed in their respective Month and Year 'groups'. However, when I checked the folder on 19th January there were 5,931 photos and videos in a 'group' named January 2020 they all had a 'Date Modified' of 18/01/2020 and Windows 10 seemed to be once again using this date to allocate their display. Even more worryingly, when I checked the folder again on 23/01/2020 there were 8,245 photos and videos in the January 2020 'group', then on 24/01/2020 there were 8,645 items and then this morning 25/02/2020 there were 11,340 items in the January 2020 'group'. So, it seems Windows 10 is gradually using the 'Date Modified' to incorrectly display more and more of these files.

I have been reporting this issue and it's developments to Microsoft since august 2019 including putting details on the Feedback Hub but nobody is taking any responsibility for getting this fixed. I occasionally manage to get to talk to somebody and all they say is there is currently no fix for it but nobody is communicating with me to say what is happening about it. Is anyone out there able to offer me any assistance please ?Thanks, Steve

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
