  1. Other user option appeared on sign-in screen after reinstalling Windows 10

Some time ago, Other User option appeared on sign-in screen after I reinstalled Windows 10. I used friends USB which contains Windows 10 installation.

I installed Windows from the same USB, on both of our PCs and we have exactly the same build 18363.

On my friends PC, Other User doesn't appear, they simply type the password and that's it.

I, on the other hand, have to go through this:

Other user option appeared on sign-in screen after reinstalling Windows 10 6ed016f4-b1f6-401d-a091-afb203d79422?upload=true.png

Then I press "OK", select my account, type my password and I'm in. It takes like 5 seconds, but it's annoying, I don't want to go through signing-in, I want to see my desktop when I come back into my room.

I searched the Internet for the solution, people say it can't be removed. I never before encountered this on my PC. Please help.

    :)

User not appearing on sign in screen

    Hi,

There's a possibility that the computer is set not to display all the user accounts. In order to show all the user accounts, you may follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows key + X from the keyboard.

    2. Select Computer Management option from the list.

    3. Select Local Users and Groups option from the left panel.

    4. Then double click on Users folder from the left panel.

    5. From there you will find all the users listed.

    6. If you find an arrow mark facing towards down with that user account then, those user accounts are disabled.

    7. You may have to enable those accounts manually.

    8. Right click on those accounts and select Properties option.

    9. Select General tab.

    10. Remove the check mark next to account is disabled option.

    11. Click Apply then OK to save the changes.

    12. Now try to sign out from the current user account.

    13. Restart the computer and check if all the user accounts are listed.

Keep us posted and we'll be willing to assist you further.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”

Other user option appeared on sign-in screen after reinstalling Windows 10

Most painless way to reinstall windows 10?

It depends on the junk accumulated honestly, but there are various methods. You can always remove programs, delete download folder, media locations, etc. As some have suggested, keeping some items on a separate internal storage drive is an option as well. Depends on what you have, what your budget is and how you want to handle your system and data.

The method @RejZoR suggests is sound and a method I've used dozens if not hundreds of time with great success in the field. In many cases though the goal is to keep user data intact, and to repair the OS. In place upgrade as it is called is also only doable in that method if you can boot to desktop, if you can't, it is time for some more advanced options or a format & reinstall.

With Windows 8 and 10 there are refresh and reset options that can be leveraged as well. Hold Shift and click Restart to reboot your system, this will get you into the advanced boot menu, which you'll need to choose advanced options (I forget ATM what it is called) and choose one of a couple items, refresh or reset.

Refresh is essentially In Place Upgrade but a little more aggressive as it wipes the Windows Apps and you may need to reinstall programs. Reset is like an OS reinstall, wipes user data, wipes profiles, registry, performs a install from the system image. Often times I'll do this and bypass using a USB key on a system. Though there are instances where these options will not work if a system has a level of corruption that has not been repaired/resolved. Check the OS Repair link in my sig for more info if ya need.
