Yet another case of a windows update bricking a laptop

    Hi,

Basically, I updated windows 10 on Friday night, the laptop restarted automatically to install, and then got stuck in a constant loop trying to boot up with the words ‘attempting to recover installation’ and ‘undoing changes made to your computer’ appearing on the screen while it tries to start.

Been fighting with this ever since trying to fix it. I can’t get into recovery mode by turning off three times, no safe mode etc. It’s a lenovo laptop and they’ve tried to help but nothing works so far.

Tried getting windows 10 onto a USB to boot up from and do a clean install, but it kept on failing when trying to get it onto a USB. I could however get windows 8.1 onto a USB, but now this is asking for a product key. I know Microsoft don’t sell these anymore but given this is an issue caused by one of their updates I would have thought they would have helped here predictably I have heard nothing from them so far.

Searches on twitter and here tell me lots have had problems with updates recently - anyone found a fix for this?! At the point now where I’d rather go buy a macbook than give any more money to Microsoft, this has taken up my entire weekend and no solution so far.

    :)

    BIOS update bricks laptop

    Hey everyone,

Last night I wanted to update my bios which lead to the laptop bricking and wouldn't turn off until the battery finally died. I tried plugging it in afterwards but the laptop would neither charge nor turn on. I tried every trick in the book, but the laptop would not charge or turn on. Nothing. I read online that this could be due to a corrupt bios chip. I want to replace it, but considering the laptop won't turn on at all, does this also mean the motherboard is damaged? I read online that the motherboard cannot be ruined from a bad bios update so I'm hoping I just need to replace the bios chip as it is a cheaper solution than replacing the entire board. Can anyone recommend what to do? Any advice would be really really helpful. Thanks.
