  1. Slow Copy Windows 10

This reopens an old discussion which was never solved reliably. I ask that moderators please not provide canned responses but instead escalate the problem to the development teams for analysis.

Problem: file copy slows to a crawl in Windows 10. This happens using a variety of PCs. Have tried MSFT copy/paste, and Richcopy. Same result.

I am transferring from one NAS to another. Both devices are attached directly to my router, one with Cat5 and one with Cat6. Initially the copy proceeds at several MB per second, which is fine. The folders I am copying are backups, so they are over 100GB. After about 30 GB the copy slows to near zero. This also happens when copying USB to USB.

The NAS drives cannot be accessed at the root of the drive, so folders are accessed as shares, mapped to Windows drive letters.

It is my conjecture that the problem stems from trying to index the data on the fly as it is being transferred. I have tried turning off TCP autotuning, disabling defender, and various other suggestions I found during searches, to no avail. The various suggestions do work temporarily for small transfers, but for copying many GB, they don't.. I would like to know if there's a way to turn off indexing when one can't access the root of a drive.

I imagine that commercial customers must have found solutions, because no one would stay with Windows if it took them several days to copy a hundred GB, so solutions must be known. I have about 20 TB of data total to transfer, and at a few kb/sec it's not working out for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

10 Tips for SSD Optimization in Windows 7 - Part 1

Looks to be similar to this: SSD Optimization, Tips and Tricks for your Windows PC

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.
