Windows 10: Windows 10 - Custom icons won't stay on desktop

Hi,



Windows 10 is such sh...t sometimes. I'm not sure anyone could fix that but I explain the issue. Windows 10 is unable to keep a custom icon .ico assigned to a website link shortcut created on the desktop.



After a while it changes it to some bland icon sh..t, either from the antique icon dll which wasn't updated from the 90's or from somewhere else, anyway the icon .ico file that I got from "Iconfinder", which provides .ico files for personalizing, won't stay up and get replaced after a while with the garbage I mentioned above.



Any way to fix that for good ? A true Windows expert might know why it happens but it would be a big surprise that anyone could have ever fixed that before as there seems to be nothing even mentioning the issue, fixed or not, on Google.



Aren't people pissed not be be able to assign a simple icon shortcut to its specific design as we could in Win7 through the "Send shortcut to desktop" in IE ?



Because now you can still open from edge a link in IE and send a shortcut to desktop from there more tools/open with IE, send to desktop/close IE, but of course it won't create the shortcut with its intended designed icon from the Company it relates to, as it used to be on Win.7 Facebook, eBay, YouTube etc. instead you just get some **** identical earth icon for each shortcut created, making all icons same and hard to differentiate.



What a darn pain.



Any genius for this Windows tragedy ?



Or any new and not yet popular .dll somewhere that would have all the icons from today’s most famous websites and would keep icons selected from it because the ones from the antique C:\windows\system32\imageres.dll are otherwise stable when selected in replacement of an existing icon

Windows 10 desktop icons not in order

In ccleaner, did you uncheck cleaning the icon cache... have not used in a while; however, I think that is what the option is called.

Now, if you are setting the icons and they move after you have set the settings and not changed them... you may have the "Random Windows 10 Icon movement problem".
Some people have this and some don't.

Desktop Icons Won't Stay Put

Hi Laurie,

As per the issue description I understand that you are facing issues with desktop icons.

I suggest you try the following step in order to arrange the icons.

• Right click on the desktop.
• Click on view
• Check the option auto arrange icons.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
