Windows 10: Error: 0x80073712 while installing KB4532693 update and unable to launch a Steam game

Hi I am experiencing a few problems, which all seem to have started at once.


I am not absolutely certain that they are related, though it is a coincidence if nothing else. I am using Win 10 Pro.


Firstly regarding the update problem:

• Update KB4532693 is repeatedly failing to install, giving error code 0x80073712 every attempt.
• I have tried manually disabling Windows Update and BITS using Services, then deleting the update files from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, then re-initiating the update process so that a fresh download of the update is made. The failed update and error code repeated.

Secondly, the possibly unrelated issue regarding secur32.dll:

• The reason why I am citing this second issue in the same question as the first is because they began at the same time and so may somehow be related.
• I have been playing the Steam version of Halo: Master Chief Collection. All of a sudden last week, the game would not load when I tried. The game returned an error in a box headed 'Easy Anti Cheat', stating 'untrusted system file: C:\Windows\System32\secur32.dll'
• No other programs appear to be affected in this way, and I am able to use my system and all other progams without issue.
• A full scan using my antivirus software McAfee Total Protection, and also Windows Defender, returns a clean bill of health.

I would appreciate any advice on how to solve this/these issues.

• Do you get any error message/code when you try to launch the game?

If the Steam games are not working in Windows 10 then, I would suggest you to contact the Games manufacturer for further assistance and check if the Game is compatible with Windows 10.

After Updating to windows 10 steam application and games dont open

I would suggest you to install the game in compatibility mode and check if it works,

3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.

Steam games not launching on Windows 10


Hi all,

I'm having a problem when I try to launch Steam games, as whatever game I try to launch doesn't actually launch. A message comes up about the game "preparing to launch" but then nothing after that happens. Some games give me an error saying Steam is not running at all, whereas others just do nothing.

I've already completed all the troubleshooting steps on Steam's website but none of them have actually fixed it. The only temporary fix that works is restarting Steam, but this becomes very annoying when I have to do it multiple times a day every time I want to play a game.

Any help on this problem is greatly appreciated - thanks
