  1. Losing most context menu options?

This has stumped me for a while. Dell Precision M4800. 16GB, 2TB Samsung SSD. Win10 fully updated. All Dell updates too.

Once in a while most of the context menu options disappear. Double-clicking a folder won't open it, it'll run VLC instead.

This is sometimes followed by "a default app has crashed and the default will be reset" messages, and the items in the taskbar will flash like Explorer is restarting.

If I'm in a folder, I can right-click on an item and it'll only have VLC and a few other options.

If I right-click a couple of more times, it'll come back to normal with the "open" and "open with" and other regular context menu items.

This is solved by a reboot, until a few weeks later, it happens again.

The computer has HyperV installed, but otherwise it's normal with Office 365 and VLC and Chrome as the regular stuff running on it.

I'm loath to reimage the computer for just this issue, but SFC and DISM commands to repair/fix the install and scanning for issues all come out clean, yet the issue persists.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Custom context menu entries

So, just throwing this out there, in case somone knows.

I have added a custom context menu entry for the program rightload, since by default the menu is broken in vistax64.

It works pefect with single files, but when I select mutiple files and try to open, I get mutiple instances of the program (which makes sense), here is my entry:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Rightload\Rightload.exe --server=1 --autostart %1

So the %1 passes the filename to the program, and when I select multiple files it is just opening multiple instances of rightload each with a different file.

What I'd like to do is be able to pass a list of the files selected to the program. Since I know it is capable of uploading multiple files from the context menu, all in one instance.

So, is there something I can pass besides %1 that will do this? I have looked around and can't seem to find an answer anywhere... *Frown Losing most context menu options? :(

    Context menu problem

    Hi,

Your concern with the context menu can be due to the configuration of your device and/or broken system files. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

    • The last known changes made/activities performed on your device prior to your concern.
    • If you've experienced your concern on all areas in Windows 10 where context menu is expected to be available. Examples are File Explorer and desktop icons.
    • The version and build of Windows 10 that you're using on your device. To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this

      link
      .

In addition, we'd like to request for a screenshot of your concern with the context menu.

In the meantime, we'd recommend performing a clean boot in Windows to isolate software conflicts on your device. To do this, you can perform the steps posted on this link.
In the clean boot environment, check if you'll be able to load the usual options for the context menu. The link will also provide steps to isolate the possible cause of the issue. Once you're done troubleshooting, check the How
to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
section to revert your device to normal boot.

If you still experience your concern while in the clean boot environment, we'd recommend creating a new user/administrator account to isolate profile related issues. To do this, you can perform the steps posted on this

    link
    .

We look forward to your response.

  4. Losing most context menu options?

    Problem with New Context Menu

The option to add a new Rich Text File seems to have disappeared from my Context Menu and I'm not sure why.

I'm not computer savvy, but after a bit of Googling I read how you can add and delete options from the New Context Menu though the Registry Editor. When I went to check it the .rtf folder under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT still has it's ShellNew folder so I'm not
sure what the issue is or if perhaps there's something wrong with it. I also found a tool to easily enable/disable file types on the New Context Menu, and .rtf is listed along with everything else and checked off as "enabled" but for some reason is not showing
up, even after I tried disabling and enabling it a couple of times. This is extremely frustrating as that's the file type I use the most.

Any suggestions as to what the problem is or how to fix it?
