  1. File Explorer folder view

On a working folder, my desktop File Explorer has "Add Columns" grayed out. Likewise all parent folders up to and including "Documents."

If I copy that same working folder to a thumb drive, then File Explorer on the desktop reading the thumb drive WILL allow me to add columns.
If I copy the same working folder to my laptop, File Explorer on the laptop WILL allow me to add columns.

I'm newly upgraded to Windows 10 on both computers.

How do I make the desktop allow adding columns in File Explorer to a folder that is stored on the desktop itself?

    :)

  2. Files remain in original folder after moving them to new folder in file explorer

    Hi,

The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the File Explorer may be caused by some configuration or files mismatched. To sort out your concern, we suggest that you reset the folder settings from the
Folder Options. This will reboot the folder’s preferences to its default state and remove any possible software conflict. To do this, you may follow these steps:

    • Click Start, type File Explorer, and press
      Enter
      .
    • On the File Explorer window, click the View tab > Options > Change folder and search options > View.
    • Under the Folder views section, click Reset Folders, and then select
      Yes to confirm.
    • Once you’re done, click OK, and then check if the issue persists.

Note: This process will remove the list of files that you recently opened.

Let us know if the suggestion works for you.

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Once you are viewing a folder, right click an empty space within the File Explorer window and select View from the dialogue menu, then choose Large or any icon you wanted to use. Alternatively, you can use the following shortcut keys on the keyboard to
      change your View settings:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + 2 Large icons
    • CTRL + SHIFT + 3 Medium Icons

    • CTRL + SHIFT + 6 Details
    • CTRL + SHIFT + 7 Tiles
    • CTRL + SHIFT + 8 Content
    3. Once you have the view set, you can make it the default view for

    every folder.

    4. Click Apply, then click OK.

    Update us on the result.
