Windows 10: Windows Protection full scan turns screen black?

Is this normal? When I go to Windows Defender and Protection, under the scan option I chose full scan. Normally I choose quick scan which takes seconds and works as expected. But, when clicking the full scan option it starts scanning as usual but after about a minute the screen turns black. I moves my mouse around and made sure the monitor was on, but the screen is still black. So, is this normal? Do I need to wait for the scan to finish for the screen to come back on?

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.
