  1. A screen popped up asking for my wifi password - was that malware? Is it risky?

I was installing a driver, and the install failed, and then a big screen came up saying to enter my WIFI password, which I did. Now I'm wondering whether that was a risky thing to do. Normally, the only place that asks me for my Wifi password is the little list that pops up when I click on the Internet Access icon at the bottom right of my screen. So this is disconcerting. Could a hacker benefit from having my Wifi password?

    :)

  2. wifi password

I am trying to find my wifi password, but am not able to find it.

the instructions given to me were:

Find your Wi-Fi password in Windows

Great! I can help you find your Wi-Fi password. Follow these steps:

    1. Select Start > Settings > Network and Internet >
      Network and Sharing Center

    1. Under the View your active networks tab, look for the network you’re connected to. Select the blue link next to
      Connections.

    1. Select Wireless Properties in the pop-up window.

    1. When the new pop-up window opens, navigate to the Security tab.

    1. Check the box next to Show characters, and your Wi-Fi password will appear in the Network security key field.

I got to the network and sharing center, but, there was not
    View your active networks
tab in the Network and sharing center tab.

so, how do I find my wifi password?

  3. Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and now my password doesn't work and I'm locked out

    Hello,

Thank you for showing interest in Windows 10. We regret the inconvenience faced towards this.

I would like to ask you:

    • Are you logged in with a local account or Microsoft account?
    • Have you tried typing the password with On-Screen keyboard?
I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1: On-Screen Keyboard

You may use the accessibility options to pop open a on-screen keyboard and type the password from there to make sure you are typing the correct password.

    If the issue persists,

    Step 2:

If you see your email address listed there, it must be a Microsoft account. You will be able to reset the password and log in if your PC is connected to internet.

    Hope this information was helpful.

A screen popped up asking for my wifi password - was that malware? Is it risky?

    Log in password question

Also consider Malware - malware gets onto system, and reboots to fully install it's keyloggers and other nasty stuff -

    • without password everything you do is now sent off to Mr scum the malware man
    • With password the system stops at the login screen waiting or password entry (ok you may still just come to the system and enter the password without thinking why it's rebooted but Being a more cautious type that askes before making changes *Wink you would probably check things, and Mr Scum would get nothing *chuckle
