Windows 10: Generic PNP Monitor Drivers

Want to operate Panasonic PT-L300U projector DVI input from 2017 HP laptop; a 2006 Dell PC successfully drives it.

Both laptop and PC are Windows 10. Both laptop and PC drive old DVI monitor; laptop via HDMI to DVI cable; PC by DVI/DVI cable.

In Device Manager when projector is connected, both laptop monitor and projector show Generic PNP Monitor under Monitors

for the 2nd monitor, but the versions are:

10.0.17763.771 for PC

10.0.18362.207 for laptop--this same driver is also shown for the first monitor the laptop monitor.

I could replace the monitor.sys file in System32 drivers folder in the laptop with that in the PC, but I am

scared that the laptop monitor would become unusable and I couldn't see to rervert back to the old file.

I have no experience in any drivers work; I just want to use the projector with the laptop.

The driver may have nothing to do with it and I am very scared to make my laptop unusable.

Remember, the laptop did drive the DVI monitor, so why not the projector?

The PC shows under Monitors a ViewSonic driver the monitor is a ViewSonic monitor instead of a Generic PNP Monitor driver.

I have used 1072x603 resolution which works for the PC for the laptop and I tried many others and they don't work.

Even though the Display Settings for the laptop indicates two monitors, clicking Detect gives "Didn't detect" the projector monitor.

Odd that the Display Settings for Monitor 2 on the laptop indicates refresh rate = 62 Hz whereas drilling deeper under

display adaptor shows 60 Hz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest you follow steps to update the monitor driver:

Press Windows + X keys

Choose Device manager

Click on Monitors

Right click on ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and click on update driver

Tap on Browse my computer for driver software

Tap on Let me pick from a list of available drivers

Choose ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and tap on Next

When you are done please restart the computer.

I connect my laptop to Dell monitor, I use only 2 screen in setting but my FPS is decrease. When I disable generic pnp monitor driver, FPS is normal. Why? What is generic pnp monitor driver?

 

Generic PNP monitor

Hello,

I use a CAD program that apparently has a problem with my ASUS 4K monitor. Seems I've tried every which way to get Window to recognize my monitor but, all I get is . . generic PnP monitor with an old 2006 driver. I've downloaded the current monitor
but, Windows won't use it.

Gone through a number of help suggestions including disconnecting the monitor, reconnecting, re-starts, delete driver, re-install . . .llllllll

Any advice would be most welcome.
