    WiFi Performance Issues

    Hi all,

    This is really a hardware issue so not sure if this is the appropriate place for this message.

    I have recently upgraded to fibre broadband and the performance on my Win7 laptop is fine with a Netgear A6150 plug in adaptor.

    However the performance on my Win 10 desktop is abysmal, and a few days ago it could not connect or even find Wi-fi networks. I temporarily disabled the Realtek driver in Device Manager and and installed the Netgear device that I have been using with the laptop. Performance not a great deal better. I have now reset back to the internal Netgear device and at least it has now re-established a connection but speeds a very low - 40Mbps at router, but sometimes less than 10 at the PC.

    I was advised to run a Powershell test - "netsh wlan show interface" and this cam up with the following:

    1. With Netgear A6150 Plug-in adapter: Channel 40; Signal 51%; Receive rate 520 Mbps; Transmit rate 520 Mbps;
    2. With Realtek Wireless LAN: Channel 6; Signal 90%; Receive rate 300 Mbps; Transmit rate 43 Mbps;

    So, now I'm puzzled, not having any real understanding of WiFi. With a signal strength of 90% why is the OEM supplied Realtek device operating at such low speeds? Also why is the Netgear device only operating at a signal strength of 51% when both tests were carried out in the same location relative to the router? Can I run the "netsh wlan show interface" from CMD on my Win 7 laptop to get a comparative reading?

    Unless someone can suggest a 'fix' it looks like I need to get myself another Wireless adaptor - How can I tell which one would be most suitable?

    For background info:

    laptop is Asus X53E, core i5 processor @ 2.4GHz + 3MB RAM Win 7 Home Premium SP1

    desktop is Zoostorm 2x Celeron 1037U processors @ 1.8GHz + 4GB RAM Win 10 Home v1909

    I would welcome any advice

    Reagrds, Vic

    :)

    That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

    At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
