Windows 10: SD Card works on camera but Laptops wants me to format it every time I try to use the Card...

I have a 128GB Samsung SD card for my camera

My windows 10 Laptop is Asus TP300LD

I used the SanDisk Adapter for the SD card and inserted this in the card reader slot in my laptop


Unfortunately, I seem to get an error every time I insert the adaptor with the SD card in my laptop. It asks me to format the drive.

My camera is however able to read the SD card when inserted


I formatted my SD card once, the laptop started reading the SD card it was empty because of the formatting

I used the SD card in my camera for 10 min and reinserted the card in the laptop

The laptop once again asked me to format the card. I don't wish to loose the data from the card once again.

Can someone please help on how can i fix this once n for all?

Format SD Card

Try with this

Method 1. Run Diskpart to Format SD Card That Won't Format

Step 1. Press Windows key and R key at the same time, type cmd in the Run box, hit Enter to open the command prompt(cmd.exe).

Step 2. Type diskpart to run Diskpart Utility.

Step 3. Type list disk to list the drives on the computer.

Step 4. Type select disk 1 (The number should be replaced by the exact drive number of your SD card).

Step 5. Type clean to run the clean utility (this will wipe all data on the SD card so make sure you saved a copy or backup of the card data).

Step 6. Type create partition primary to create a new partition on the SD card.

Step 7. Type select partition 1 (it should be the newly created partition on step 6).

Step 8. Type active to make the partition active.

Step 9. Type format fs=ntfs （or format fs=fat32）to format the partition to the desired file system.

NTFS format for SD cards for digital cameras

Dear Microsoft

Why would you make the only way that Windows 10 read a USB or SD card would be in NTFS format?

Every company in the world makes their cards for the digital cameras in Fat or Fat 32. Now when I take pictures with my digital camera Windows 10 will not read the card.

I have to:

• Put the SD card into my Windows 7 machine
• Copy all of the files to the the W7 machine
• Format the SD card to NTFS
• Copy all of the files to the SD card
• Put the SD card into my Windows 10 machine.
• Copy files to my W10 machine
• Put the SD card back into my camera
• Reformat it on the camera so that I can use it again.
• Repeat steps 1-8 everytime I want to use the SD card in my digital camera.

This is beyond frustrating.

I just spent 20 hours with Microsoft online support to get learn this.

The above process is only for SD cards. Now I will have to take all of my USB sticks - copy all of the info to my Windows 7 machine, reformat the USB drive to NTFS then recopy it back to the USB so that I can use it on my W10 Machine.

What a complete waste of time and a total oversight on Microsoft's part.

Fix this issue immediately please!!!

 

Format sd card

I want to format an SD card so I can use it in my new digital camera. When I put the sd card in the camera and turn it on, it tells me that the card is not formatted, and won't allow me to format it in the camera. I need to do it in my laptop.
