Windows 10: Switching from Office-LAN to Homeoffice VPN

Hello,

I regularly encounter a problem with getting access to folders on fileserver and exchange after going home from office.

For example:
I leave office with several files (local on machine and from fileserver) an/or programs still open. I just put my laptop into hibernation and go home. There, I wake it up, let it connect to my wireless network and activate my VPN (Anyconnect) to get access to the office-network.
When I do it this way, I won't be able to access remote services or files. But I don't get any error message either. Win10 just sits there and semms to try to do something, but can*t get it done.

Only solution so far is a complete shutdown, as Windows seems to have problems with the change from local LAN to VPN connection or with being taken out of one LAN into another and then reconnected ia VPN... I can't say.

My network-specialist said, that this is a Windows-problem and has to do with the network-stack. He explained some more stuff, but I can't remember it fully, so I'll just state his conclusion: "No chance to fix that and complete shutdown is the only way."

What are your suggestions to solve this problem?

Maybe you know (and can recommend) of a tool instead that "remembers and reopens" back all windows etc.

VPN for LAN/Internet Gaming

I was trying to get Empire Earth to work over Internet but it appears the master servers are down for the count. The only way to play the game now is via LAN which I confirmed did work; however, it would be nice to play with a friend over the Internet so he doesn't have to come over here and I think VPN can do that. Unfortunately, I don't know much more about VPN than what it stands for...

Anyone got suggestsions for VPN software to achieve what am I trying to achieve (LAN over Internet)? I'd prefer free because it probably won't get used more than once a month.
